Picking the Right Tool

Challenge:
Selecting the right software application for accounting, bookkeeping, communications, relationship management, HR and other functions can be scary. In 2006, Framework was making bad technology bets. Someone recommending something that was free. Or cool. Or cool and free. As you've read, we took a step back to say: Let's build a plan. The plan remains to share-by-default. We do this by thinking about which tools best helps us create 'information once/distribute it widely/accessible multiple places' that is super secure, easy to maintain and is flexible.

Approach:
The following illustration is a snap shot of our three favour software applications that allows for this. Common characteristics include HTML embed, URL file sharing and robust permission features. 

Results:
Running Framework used to be really, really, really, really hard. Now it is just hard. The thoughtful combination about which information that needs to be shared via which tool has been, mainly, solved. Our infrastructure is fully scalable and customizable. It changes with us. We change with it. And it costs pennies on the dollar compared to the waste and inefficiency of 'closed' IT architectures.

Moving Forward:
Framework has limited knowledge of the APIs that Box, SmartSheet, etc offer. We will be investing more time to learn about the opportunities as we also integrate this software into our Salesforce.com instance.
