Cover It Live

Cover It Live is a live-blogging tool that can be embedding onto your blog or site.  It allows for a streaming conversation in real-time.  Text, images and videos can be added to the live chat, so users can have a range of media to participate with.  The conversations can be saved as a file post-event for visitors to review at a later time.  Polls can be created in real-time, offering an additional enagement opportunity. Cover it Live easily integrates with existing login services such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace so an additional user account is not necessary. Additional Cover It Live Features are described here

Cover It Live allows us to embed a Twitter hashtag search or user name into the stream.  You can also embed a live video or YouTube video directly into the Cover It Live stream. A demo of Cover It Live can be viewed here.

Ideas for how Cover It Live can be used at Timeraisers:
  • The live chat window can be running on our HP Touch screens at the Civic Footprint Kiosk, where participants will be encouraged to leave their messages and feedback about the event in the live stream (so others can get a sense of what it's like to "be there").
  • Images from the Civic Footprint Kiosk that are uploaded to Facebook or Twitter can also be included in the stream in real-time.
  • Evening announcements can be copied onto the live stream, where participating agencies or other chapters across Canada can tune in to see how many hours are being raised, as it happens.
  • We can invite well-wishers and audience members from across Canada to send in their messages of support for the participants, which could potentially be read aloud by the Emcee at the event (cross-platforms).
  • Volunteers, agencies and organizers from other cities can tune in to get a sense of the excitement and positive impact that a Timeraiser brings with it each evening.  They can see the messages and images and ask questions if they wish.
  • Live poll questions can be posted to event participants or virtual audience members. Questions like "What is the most interesting part of the Timeraiser for you: a) bidding time on art b) meeting with volunteer agencies c) the evening networking opportunities
Live-Streaming Timeraiser Events and Civic Footprint Kiosk Appearances

We promote the Civic Footprint Kiosk at different events across Toronto and at the Timeraiser events across Canada.  In addition to spreading the word about Civic Footprint to participants at event, we also connect the conversation and promotion using social media.  Images that are taken at the Civic Footprint Kiosk are uploaded to Twitter (through TwitPic), to our Facebook Fan Page, and to our Picasa Web Album after the event.  When using Cover It Live streaming, pictures posted to Twitter will be displayed in the live stream ,adding additional content and saving an extra step of having to upload pictures twice.

It is our hope that audience members will engage with our social media during the event and after.  During the event we encourage participants to take pictures at the kiosk and to participate in the Cover It Live stream.  We distribute Civic Footprint Business Cards with our social media URLs so that users can tag themselves in the photo album that is uploaded to Facebook after the event.
